Carrick Castle is a 14th-century tower house on the west shore of Loch Goil on the Cowal Peninsula, in Argyll and Bute, west of Scotland. The castle was probably built by the Campbells in the last decades of the fourteenth century, at a point of time when the family was dominant in the area. It was used as a hunting lodge by James IV. Mary, Queen of Scots visited in 1563.

Some superb tracks, good gravel and not much walking (few hundred metres total) in half a dozen short sections. If you're stronger/lighter than me you should be able to ride the whole thing.

Take the opportunity to eat and drink in the cafes and pub in this well resourced village as the next provisions might be some way off

The Battle of Dalrigh, also known as the Battle of Dail Righ, Battle of Dalry or Battle of Strathfillan, was fought in 1306 between the army of King Robert the Bruce against Clan MacDougall of Argyll, who were allies of Clan Comyn and the English. It took place at the hamlet of Dalrigh (the "King's Field" in the Scottish Gaelic language) near Tyndrum in Perthshire, Scotland (not to be confused with Dalry, Ayrshire). Bruce's army, reeling westwards after defeat by the English on 19 June at the Battle of Methven, was intercepted and all but destroyed, with Bruce himself narrowly escaping capture. Stunning piece of tarmac between 2 climbs, with equally stunning views. You'll struggle to find a better road than this is all of Scotland!

Hotel and bar in the centre of Tyndrum with loads of space. Cyclist friendly and open quite late if you get stuck out on the road.

A small town in the south HIghlands, on the edge of the Trossachs. A few good cafes and a great pub. There's also a great campsite with 'hobbit huts' that are a great option on a bike packing trip.

Loch Restil sits in the Argyll Forsest Park, on the edge of the Trossachs. Loads of amazing cycling roads in this area, so the loch is a good place to stop for a breather and to appreciate the view.

Amazing tarmac road that rolls through the hills. Stunning views on each side, with a few sharp uphills to content with. The downhills are worth it though.
