Difficult pass at first, especially in the heat. Easier after the first third. Be careful of the unlit tunnel 1 km from the summit. For added peace and quiet, the road leading up to the pass is closed to traffic from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Culminating at 2,215 meters above sea level, it is the highest pass in the Pyrenees taken by a road. Overlooking the village of Saint-Lary Soulan, it offers a lovely panorama of the valley.

Interesting. Planetarium Observatory. The climb from the Col du Tourmalet takes about 2 to 2.5 hours (only the last part under the Pic is a bit steep - 25 to 30%). It can also be reached by cable car from La Mongie.

One of the most difficult passes in the Pyrenees and in France with really hard percentages that go on and on. When you leave the road to pla d'Adet you go up a small road of goats, it's really nice in the middle of sheep and cows. Be careful when crossing the tunnel near the summit because it is not lit and animals may be in the tunnel. The view is magnificent it is really a must. You just have to go down the road, so watch out for the cows because you pick up speed very quickly.

The Bastan refuge is located a little higher up, on the shores of Lac du Milieu. It is open from the last weekend of May to the first weekend of October, continuously. It offers a 12-seat dormitory as well as a refectory for which we advise you to book in advance on the refuge website: http://refugedebastan.fr/dates-douverture/ However, the refuge remains open out of season (you will need to bring your duvets) to accommodate hikers in need of shelter.

The Pic du Midi de Bigorre is a peak in the French Pyrenees culminating at 2,876 meters above sea level. Open all year round, its 600 square meter terrace offers an exceptional panorama of the Pyrenees chain. There is also an astronomical observatory, a television relay and a restaurant.
