I went there to take a dip but the site was littered with rubbish (cake wrappers, chips, candy, tissues, McDonald's bags, pizza boxes, etc.) right down to the water. Exceptional because it was the day after the music festival or just a habit? Sunday was also packed with people (obviously)

There are no written documents about the origins of the Sainte Croix church. However, we know for sure that it was entrusted in the 11th century to the Benedictines of Marmoutier-lès-Tours who built a priory at the chevet of the church with a Saint Martin chapel on the site of the current choir. In 1669, the decision was made to rebuild the church, which was too cramped and falling into ruins. The architects Nicolas Renaudin, Jacques Renaud and Pierre Durand built the nave in the flamboyant ogival style. The chevet was formed of a flat wall against which the three altars were placed. Then, in 1685, Jean Jagueneau built the façade in the classical style with columns and pediments in the antique style. In the 19th century, in 1839, the architect Théodore Neau undertook the construction of the choir in a neo-Gothic style. From 1859 to 1861, Henri-Théodore Driollet adapted the 17th century façade, which would be topped with a campanile and the belfry. The latter houses the clock and the bell of the old Bouffay tower destroyed in 1848. The bell, cast in 1663, weighs 8,096 kg. Finally, in 1903, a large niche was dug into the wall behind the altar of the Virgin, intended to receive the statue of Our Lady of Good Help.
