just before the bridge, pop down to the units and you'll find an old mill converted in to a greenhouse, and a few units selling the wares and a cafe

An excellent campsite open all year round, and just off the King Alfreds Way. There are clean indoor showers and toilets, as well as a laundry room and washing up area. You will need 50p to use the showers. There's also an option of staying in a pod or self contained apartment. Within a five minute walk is a friendly pub specialising in Italian food.

Friendly, popular cafe serving hot drinks, cakes and light lunches. Also interesting gift shop selling hand-carved bespoke kitchenware. Open Wednesday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.

Bespoke handmade kitchenware shop with a great cafe. Outdoor seating in summer or cosy inside in winter. Fabulous selection of snacks, lunches, cakes + really good coffee. Open daily 10-4.

The lion monument at the base of Etchilhampton Hill (Monument Hill) was erected in 1771 and is a local landmark. It was made in honour of James Long of Wedhampton, whose family crest was the lion. He saw to the construction of a new road from Nursteed to Lydeway, avoiding the old road which had a very steep gradient and was tedious and dangerous for horses and travellers, and often used by highwaymen. The sound of a ghostly coach and horses have been heard nearby but never seen. Crop circles have been formed on the hill here. The lion, on a stone plinth has an unusual iron tail, and until they fell off - wooden forepaws. These were replaced An apprentice was sent to start work on restoring the lion and found an elder tree growing from one of the lions joints. He was about to remove it when a group of gypsies passed by and told him not to. A family whose son had gone off to the first world war had placed a seed on the lion, convinced that if the tree grew, their son would return home safe. Legend says when the clock of St.James church in Devizes strikes midnight, the lion goes to a farm pond in Stert to drink. It is also said that the lion stands at the corner of Tinkfield Farm and this field was the meeting place of the 'Stodfald Hundred' and the lion is there on guard.

Great cafe stop. A bit different to the normal cyclist stop. Great, selection of coffee, snacks and cakes and drinks. Very well prepared food, well presented with love and attention. Part of the Garden centre complex and easy to miss. Definitely worth a visit. Will go again.

From this spot, you can see Stonehenge standing proudly in the distance. As soon as I saw it, though, I knew I had to get closer. Keep riding along this track and take the path right and you can get as close to this Neolithic monument as the paying tourists do.

Very cyclist friendly - great campsite

However, can be very noisy at night. Music playing till 1:30am!

Really nice campsite to stay and right on the King Alfreds Way. Very friendly clean and well run. You will need 50p for the showers. There is a well stocked garage five minutes walk offering coffees and all the food needed for a days cycling. Pub is also five minutes walk only did pizza whilst we were there, friendly service and excellent pizza.
