It is not so common for a Christian place of worship – which encompasses the whole of heaven – to be dedicated to “ALL SAINTS”. Usually it is one (or occasionally two) named saints who hold the patronage of a church – and thus usually also of the parish or town in which it is located. But to find the origin of such a dedication, one has to go far back in history, because the model for this practice of dedication to ALL SAINTS can be seen as a pagan custom, according to which there were already central temples in pre-Christian times that were dedicated to all deities (PANTHEON). The probably most famous Pantheon, formerly a pagan temple and now a Christian place of worship, is located in the Italian capital.

Landguard Fort is the site of the last opposed seaborne invasion of England in 1667 and the first land battle of the Royal Marines.

The Deben estuary near Felixstowe is an idyllic place for a leisurely stroll. Follow a flat, stone path along the shore, enjoying sights of bobbing boats and fishers after their daily catch.

Here you can find a foot and bicycle ferry that runs between Felixstowe Ferry and Bawdsey. There are daily service from May to September, and weekends only from Good Friday to 30 April and October. There is also a café nearby, The Ferry Café, a quirky establishment born in 1946 and still sporting 50s inspired interior.

The Ramsholt Arms is a gorgeous pub and restaurant located on the banks of the picturesque River Deben. The pub is known for its excellent locally sourced seafood, so take a seat on the waterfront, relax and enjoy. Dogs are welcome too!

Shottisham is a charming village nestled in the heart of Suffolk. The village features a number of picturesque cottages, a beautiful old mill, a church, and is situated nearby to the idyllic River Deben.

If you are there at low tide be vary careful handling your bike on the jetty and into / out of the boat as it can be very very slippy! £4 single for cyclists.

Felixstowe's seafront gardens are home to the Wicker family, a group of people sculpted out of willow. The family have actually been replaced, after the original family were deemed not to be able to survive another season in this blustery seafront town.

Landguard Fort dates back to the 16th century but has never really fallen out of use, despite its many renovations. Its interior is largely Victorian, but it has a more modern exterior, and was in constant occupation throughout both World Wars. There's a fascinating museum inside.

Felixstowe has miles of beach and strolling along its promenade is one of the best ways to take it all in. There are colourful beach huts running alongside it, always ready to pose for a photo. In clear weather, you can see for miles from here, including out to sea to spot the offshore wind turbines.

This little tower is one of the many Martello towers built in the 19th century for coastal defences. They appear across the former British Empire and there are 45 left standing in the UK. The only defending this tower does now is from golf balls, as the Felixstowe golf course flows around it.

The seafront architecture is nicer than the beach

Its actually a very nice stretch of coastal path just be aware of stray golf balls coming your way.

It's worth taking the paths through the gardens just for the little surprises they deliver

Don't forget that between October and April there are no ferries mid week

Ramsholt All Saints Church: The late 13th/early 14th century tower is slightly oval and tapering, but this is exaggerated by the three hefty buttresses which were built with the tower and reach right to the top. The belfry openings are lancet shaped, made with stone frames and brick relieving arches. Brick is also used for the put-log holes (for horizontal scaffolding). As well as flints, the fabric also includes some locally found lumps of septaria, compressed clay from the river bed. The inverted V marking the former nave roof line on the east of the tower also continues across the east faces of the nearest buttresses. Because of the buttresses, (one facing due west), the placing of the three belfry openings and the ground floor window are unusual. The nave doorways are circa 1300, and many of the windows are of that time, with the east one having intersecting Y tracery. The nave and chancel are one width, though roofed separately, with the wall being rendered. The south porch is perhaps 17th century and has a brick lined entrance arch and three brick framed niches above it.
