As others have said, the area around this pond is crucially important for endangered birds from April to August and should be avoided during these months to give the wildlife the time and space it needs to safely raise their babies.

Walked to this pond early April. Ground comparatively dry due to very low rainfall in March. No signage seen for nesting birds.

A wonderful place to have a picnic or read a book in the summer. Please keep in mind that curious horses may come and take a look

Its very, very beautiful especially on a crisp cold day. The ground and small streams around it are very waterlogged after bad weather in winter though - it can become impassable to walk the whole way around the pond so can interrupt your hike if your loop passes through here.

The way to the pont is closed because of nesting birds.

Longham Lakes are a double lake separated by a narrow causeway. It's managed as a wildlife reserve and fishing lakes. There is a nice path around the area, perfect for an easy walk.

Long Lake is a scenic watering hole situated not too far from Burley. The area is frequented by cows, wild ponies, and a variety of other beautiful wildlife species that call this forest home.

Hightown Lake is a fishing lake near Ringwood in Hampshire. It was formed after gravel extraction had finished and was used for water skiing, but now it is exclusively for fishing. It is run by Ringwood and District Angling Association and is one of their top carp venues with fish to over 45lb. It is also a good bagging venue with a large head of bream, roach and tench. The lake is about 22 acres in size and has an island of about 4 acres in the middle. The depth is up to 13 feet.

Lovely space during the summer with fantastic walling. But the forest ask you not to walk in the area around the pond during ground nesting time (Feb to July) as rare birds breed here.

Once an area of desolate gravel pits, the landscape here has been utterly transformed by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust, in partnership with two water companies. Now a series of thriving lakes with fishing, sailing, youth education and wildlife, there’s a lot going on here despite its general serenity. Summer is a lovely time of year to visit but in winter, the bird hides come into their own as many flighty folk overwinter here from colder countries further north. Lapwings, terns and oyster catchers throw Christmas parties here. There are public toilets at the north of Ivy Lake and several car parks.

Whitten Pond is in the middle of open heathland south of Burley. The spot is especially popular in the summer months with people coming to relax on the shoreline, eat picnics and enjoy the scenery. You can often see herds of ponies grazing around the pond, plus birds and other wildlife.
