Lovely pub. Great Sunday carvery.

You could of choose to continue up along the grove, alongside the Roman Defensive Ditch and Bank system but you'd be with the traffic so taking a right here and going through the Industrial Estate avoids all the traffic and brings you up onto the road that takes you to Poundbury

Cosy Pub, food only so-so. You could if you wished veer off to the left after the pub and take instead the shared cycle/pedestrican route and continue all the way to Hangmans Cottage

This old Victorian water pump is the only one of the three that once existed in Osmington. It was recently restored, and it's indeed rare to come across this type of pump nowadays.

The figure you see represents King George III riding his horse. The size of this hill figure is 280 feet (85 m) long and 323 feet (98 m) high, and from here, you'll have a good view of it.

This serene village is wonderful to wander around thanks to the numerous historic buildings. From the old granary to the 11th century church, there's plenty to see. Find the village pub, the New Inn, which has not been 'new' for hundreds of years and is a Grade II listed building; you get excellent pub grub, perfect for a lunch stop.

Great location and good place for refreshments after a cycle,walk or run near Weymouth beach. As Darrin says can be pretty busy.

Carries London Road over the River Frome towhich stood a few hundred feet to the north. Two metal plaques threaten transportation for life for anyone found guilty of wilfully damaging the bridge. Featured in Far From the Madding Crowd (1874) and The Mayor of Casterbridge (1886) by Thomas Hardy. The bridge marks the boundary between town and country. Then, as now, Casterbridge “… had no suburbs—in the ordinary sense. Country and town met at a mathematical line.” Beyond lie the water meadows and corn fields Hardy calls Durnover Moor. A small path through the meadows to the north side of Grey’s Bridge leads up river 50 yards or so to the pool called Ten Hatches Weir. Here, Michael Henchard intended to drown himself, after finding his own effigy floating in the water.

After seeing the tremendous job the locals had done to restore the pump. It was such a shame to find out it didn't work

It seems hard to imagine now, with a multitude of taps and flushes in our homes, that there was a time not that long ago where you had to go to a pump to fetch water. However, there are innumerable Victorian (and older) water pumps still standing at village squares and roadsides to remind us. In the mid-1800s, there were three water pumps in Osmington carrying water from the pumping station at nearby Sutton Poyntz. Today, just this one remains.

use the free parking in the college car park and spend half an hour walking round the beautiful grounds.
