I always make time to pop in on my walks in this area as it is wonderfully calming and peaceful. I like to just sit and marvel at the talent of the architecture.

The Church of St. Vincent, a petite structure with origins dating back to 1189-1280, displays charming Hamstone accents and is crowned by a clay tile roof. Its walls are constructed from lias rubble. Remarkably, the church doesn't possess a tower; rather, it boasts an uncommon 'lantern' bellcote, thought to have been appended in the late 15th or early 16th century. In 1878, the church underwent a restoration process.

Turn right out of the car park and then left by the houses and straight up. We turned right after the second gate around the hill. Not a good route for buggies if you have kids, best to carry them

This extraordinary church displays numerous styles of architecture, thanks to its exceptionally long history. Founded in 705 AD, the building has Saxon and Norman heritage but much of what you see today is the result of an extensive rebuild during the 15th century. Today the 'abbey' is a church, but it was once a cathedral and then an abbey.

You might start looking at estate agent websites after meandering around Cucklington as the village and its views are jaw-dropping. Apart from far-reaching views of the patchwork countryside, you'll find a magnificent 13th-century church here too. Located between Gillingham and Wincanton, there are plenty of footpaths and lanes leading to this charming place.

1월 12, 2021, Cutt Mill Ruins
Dorset is brimming with history and if you walk anywhere in this chalk county, you'll be tripping over something ancient. Cutt Mill is one such remnant from times past and it was originally a corn mill. There has been a mill on the site for at least 1,000 years, although likely more and possibly double that, given the Roman villa site just up the hill. Despite its dereliction, its position is tranquil and a fantastic place for watching the Stour and its resident birds from herons and moorhens to kingfishers and ducks.

Cadbury Castle is an ancient hillfort that affords breathtaking panoramic views. The ramparts you see today were first raised by stone age men. In the Iron Age, they were fortified by the Durotriges tribe to defend against Roman invaders. The Durotriges were ultimately defeated in 70 AD and the Roman invaders torched the fort and the surrounding village. By 500 AD the fort was again standing tall to defend against Vikings. There is some speculation that the site was King Arthur’s legendary Camelot stronghold in the 6th century.
