Hollow Lane is a great example of a Hollow Way, a sunken lane typical of this area of the country. These ancient lanes are cut into the landscape but we're not entirely sure why. They may also have been cut initially to make animal heading easier and to provide protection from the weather. What ever the cause they make for very atmospheric riding!

Built in 1955 Sutton Bingham reservoir is managed by Wessex Water. It's a popular fishing and walking destination and a pretty spot for a stop off while riding around central Dorset. There is a public toilet and bike racks in the car park.

Sutton Bingham reservoir is filled with carp and trout, perfect place to stop for rest and use up any old bread, feeding the carp.

This is an amazing climb along a lane that carves between Hamdon and Butcher's Hill. You ride between thick woodland that makes you feel like you are entering another world. The climb is steady and not too hard on the legs.

Great atmospheric climb, nice and steady from memory…

Ham Hill affords wonderful views over Stoke-sub-Hamdon nestled in the countryside. The hill was quarried for local Ham Stone for many centuries and the 15-strong stone circle you find there was built by the Millennium Project to commemorate this. There is also a war memorial on the summit.

St Vincent's is a pretty parish church that dates to the 13th century. The Grade I-listed building retains some original architectural features, as well as many additions from the 14th and 15th centuries. The interior includes box pews, pulpit and an octagonal font from the 1600s.
