Tamar lakes are a scenic place to visit with a gravel track that circulates around it, it does however have a couple off places that can get boggy after heavy rain!

The source of the River Tamar is found in Woolley Wood, only approximately 6km from the North Cornwall coast. The River Tamar flows over 60 south to Plymouth, forming the boundary between Cornwall and Devon. The source of the river is not the most obvious, as it located in an area that is boggy.

Cycling along Marine Drive offers fantastic views of the sea and the Cornish coastline. Here you can look south onto Widemouth Bay and beyond.

Widemouth Bay is a long sandy beach popular with families and surfers. During the summer you'll find a cafe, an ice-cream & snack shack, plenty of surf schools and public toilets. There are fantastic views of the beach and coastline from the car park. There are lifeguards present May to September and at weekends/half term during October.

Bude Canal was built in 1823 to allow the transportation of mineral rich sand from Bude and the surrounding area inland to fertilize agricultural land. This revolutionised farming in the area and also allowed slate and granite to be transported to the sea. The canal was abandoned in 1891 and restoration is in progress.

This large, yet somehow secretly hidden nature reserve is made up of a number of different habitats, including quiet meadows, dramatic coastline and tranquil meadows near the border of Devon and Cornwall. In the stream valley, keep an eye out for dippers skimming over the water and spotted flycatchers in the woodland. Bude Canal opened in 1823 to carry sand for agricultural fertiliser to the hilly hinterland in Devon and Cornwall. Its construction cost £118,000, a considerable amount at the time. The canal runs 35 miles (56 km) from Bude to Vinworthy, Blagdon and Druxton. Today, boats can no longer navigate the entire canal as two locks have been replaced by concrete damns. Nonetheless, it remains a pretty canal with abundant wildlife.
