Lovely stretch of road to ride with a Westerly.

This fine old blacksmiths forge dates back to 1845 and has a horseshoe surrounding the entrance. It's a Grade II listed building.

St Peter & St Paul's Church dates from the 12th century and is grade 1 listed. It's a serving Church of England church in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham.

Amazing! I wasn't expecting such a castle in the middle of Newark when cycling through.👍 Looks like it would be well worth a visit if you have time.

Nice cafe on the perimeter path around Kings Mill Reservoir. Good selection of hot meals, freshly made sandwiches and home made cakes and pastries. Opens 9am.

Mill Waters is a nice place for a coffee/lunch break. Heritage Centre. Plenty ducks and geese to feed by the water.

The Minster is spectacular

Kings Mill Reservoir is a Local Nature Reserve offering a number activities. Visitors can walk the perimeter of the lake. The one mile walks takes in the views across the lake, with plenty of waterfowl and birds to spot on the way round. The visitor centre is home to the The Mill Adventure Base where you can try various land and water activities such as mountain biking, climbing and kayaking.

The area was first settled in the Saxon times and the Saxon suffix "ton" means "an enclosure or fenced in clearing,The town appears in the Domesday Book in 1086 as "Sutone". There are also documents from 1189 showing that Gerard, son of Walter de Sutton, gave two bovates of land and the church at Sutton to Thurgarton Priory.

My favourite stretch when cycling on the quiet lanes from Newark to Gunthorpe on the north side of the river. There is also an enjoyable riverside walk to this point from the car-park at Gunthorpe, past the locks and weir.

I use this scenic section of the lane regularly. Make it part of a loop between Gunthorpe and Newark, going SW on this lane and back up the lanes on the other side of the Trent, avoiding the A46

Combine a visit to the castle with a picnic, watching the Trent roll by. There are lots of quiet lanes approaching from the south.

Hexgreave estate was a farm but has been converted into a modern living and working estate with homes and office space available. It's beautiful and well managed with parkland and some nice old buildings. There is also a café as part of the estate, a good stop for a coffee or snack. The café is open Mon to Fri 8:30 - 15:00. The estate grounds are private but the main road through the estate is a bridleway so cycling is permitted. This make a nice route with very few cars but a good surface. There are a few gates to stop cars.
