A very attractive building that appears more recent than it actually is (consecrated in 1879). Inside, the most immediate striking feature is The Corona above the nave altar - a circle of eight winged 'spirit figures'. Various alterations to the layout and function of the different areas have been made over the years and there are items from the old church (that this one replaced) and others. A lovely place to spend time in quiet contemplation.

Until the later half of the 20th century, the bridge at Upton was the only one across the River Severn between Worcester and Tewkesbury; the present bridge was built in 1940. Oliver Cromwell's soldiers crossed the Severn here to win the battle of Upton before the main Battle of Worcester in the English Civil War.

I recommend not riding up this lane due to dangerously out of control dogs allowed to roam free on the road. I was hounded by 3 dogs for 400m

Cycle east from Castlemorton towards Little Wellend and take a right up to Hill End Court. You will be rewarded by a fantastic vista and a great spot to take a short break.

I could obciously dismantle, use bridge to cross but better option is to ride on full speed thru the water 😉

Upton on Severn (known locally as Upton) is a historic waterside town on the banks of the River Severn.

The Woodshed is located right at the entry to Eastnor Deer Park, which played host to the legendary Malvern Classic MTB event for a number of years, but isn’t normally open to cyclists. There’s plenty of seating, both under cover in the “shed” and out in the fresh air, bike racks, a toilet, bins and even free wifi. Dog-walking friends or family will appreciate the dog shower and poo bins. There’s a decent-sized free car park so, if you wanted, you could easily start/finish the circular route here rather than in Great Malvern as I’ve suggested. On offer from the café are locally-sourced treats, including paninis, samosas, scotch eggs, soups and handmade sausage rolls from nearby Legges of Bromyard. Those with a sweet tooth won’t be disappointed either, with assorted cakes, bakes and ice creams on the menu, including gluten free and vegetarian options. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate and cold drinks are also available. Drinks and food are served in recyclable or compostable packaging and all waste is sorted for recycling.

Lovely Riverside town. Good Blues festival.
