If you are looking to dive down into the valley below as I do frequently then this road together with Painswick Road is the most enjoyable. Birdlip Hill is your other unadvised option with a man hole cover on the apex of the bend that always makes me wish I'd worn more absorbent pants

Careful on the golf course, stay to the edges. Fantastic views over Gloucester and stroud. If you want an express route down take Stockley and enjoy rocketing into Upton st. Leonards.

Gloucester cathedral showcases 1000 years of architectural styles from Norman through to Perpendicular and even the present day as repair and rennovation continues. Pop in and admire the fan-faulted medieval cloisters, colourful Great East Window, and the decorative Lady Chapel, which houses some of the finest Arts & Crafts glass in the country.

Fascinating archaeology, geology and nature combine at Haresfield Beacon. This spectacular viewpoint, which was once a strategically positioned hillfort on the Cotswold limestone escarpment, affords views across the England/Wales border and into the Brecon Beacons. All around is a mixed landscape of woodland and chalk grassland, home to a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Bit of a climb but worth it

A magnificent building which has been polished up recently. Lovely grounds in which to chill out for a bit.

One of the finest buildings in the world. The grounds are a great place to take a break and chill for a while.

Harder than I thought it would be (having previously descended it) and I still knew it was going to be hard. Once the steep stuff starts it doesn't stop... for a long way! There are a couple of very brief shallower sections on which it's a goods idea to make some use of... a few calmer breaths, then go again. The little pinch at the very top is torturous... but you're not giving up there!

Harder than I imagined it would be. There are a couple of places where the gradient relents very briefly, it's a good idea to make use of them as the rest of the climb keeps coming at you and slowly getting steeper. Gloucester Cathedral is a magnificent Grade I-listed building in the heart of Gloucester. The cathedral has been a place of worship for more than 1,300 years. After the dissolution of the monasteries, the church was founded in 1540 as a cathedral.

Certainly in the top 10, perhaps even in the top 5 of the most impressive cathedrals in the UK.

Great views and hence, usually lots of people and dogs to avoid. The climb up from Cheltenham Road is short and punchy.

Claiming that this is the best road in Gloucestershire is a big call. But in its autumn splendour it makes a damn good case... truly beautiful. A very nice decent after doing the Slad Valley climb, the road is in very good condition and very quiet. (Autumn 2020)

Lovely to cycle around just be careful of the shared space with pedestrians, always busy with visitors. Lots of lovely cycleways around to explore.

Nice descent through the woods from Birdlip to the A46, not sure the nicest road of the day though

This is worth a trip on any bike, worth exploring from every direction, and certainly worth visiting cranham woods for even more good downhill, singletrack and fireroads. Just be mindful of cows and considerate to Golfers and Walkers who also share the beacon and it's surrounding land (also the royal william Pub nearby is nice!)

Best hill climb in the county. Not for the faint hearted!

A relentless, gruelling climb. Dig in, use the few places where the gradient is just a bit shallower, don't give up.
