A very long, fairly consistent and quite satisfying climb out of Stroud. There are a couple of steeper ramps, but these are never too long, the rest is in the 10% range and there is a bit of a breather around a third of the way up. Probably best avoided at rush hour, but it wasn't too bad when I did it... early on a Monday afternoon.

Not as brutal a Beacon Lane, it's a more consistent gradient but still very tough. Komoot suggests that it maxes out at around 15%, but I reckon that's about the average gradient, though there are a couple short steeper sections (20%+), but thankfully a couple of short shallower sections that provide a welcome respite. The road is very narrow, so you may need to stop for traffic. On the positive side, the surface is surprisingly good for this sort of road.

A stunning church and churchyard in perhaps the most quintessentially Cotswold town.

A long enjoyable climb that eases after about halfway up into a comfortable gradient through some stunning woodlands.

A great cycle path to follow.

This is the old Ryeford bridge and you can exit here to head into Stonehouse or towards King's Stanley.

A lovely way into or through Stroud. It can get narrow in places and there are lots of walkers, so take care. It can also get a bit muddy in winter or after sustained rainfall, so might be best avoided on narrow tyres at such times.

The archway at the side of the church looks to be much older and is quite spectacular.

Short, steeper sections in between flatter and gentler sections. A nice climb in itself, with some pleasant views and a good alternative start to the steepest, narrowest and sometimes busy section of the main Selsley Hill Climb - turn onto "The Grove" and continue up the hill just before the church.

If your new to the area maybe take extra caution here as it's a bit of a mad junction.

The church was initially a chapel build in 1092, possibly built on the foundations of an Anglo-Saxon church. It is classified as Norman in heritage. The great altar was consecrated in 1350.

Famous for the 99 topiary yew trees. Legend has it that if a hundredth tree is planted the devil will come and pull it out by the roots. Painswick is a lovely example of a Cotswold town.

Built in the 13th century with a north aisle added in 1892. Constructed in limestone with stone slate roofs.

The church is built of ashlar with Cotswold stone roofs. Except for the south vestry, formerly a porch, the whole church was build in the early 14th century. As a mother church of a large parish that once included Hardwicke, Randwick and Saul and as a church that belonged to Gloucester Abbey, Standish church is likely to have been built many years before the first known reference to it c.1188.
