The 12th-century church of St John the Baptist is known for its unusual tower, which is made entirely from wood and dates to the Tudor period, or perhaps earlier. The tower's shape makes it look like a dovecote, and gave rise to the local nickname of 'the pigeons' house'.

This is a mecca for lovers of coffee, cake and waterside stops. If you happen upon this beautiful place on the first weekend of the month they have a craft market on so you’ll find even more fuel options!

The Gloucester Docks would once have been a bustling hub for transporting goods to and from Gloucester along the River Severn. Tewkesbury Abbey is a magnificent place of worship in the heart of town. The Grade I-listed building was originally founded as Benedictine Abbey in 1087. After the dissolution of the monasteries, it became the parish church. You can observe wonderful Norman architecture at the abbey and admire stained glass windows that have survived from the 15th century. The abbey grounds are a pleasant place to relax, too.

Tewkesbury is a pretty medieval town in the Cotswolds set beside the River Severn. Perhaps the most famous attraction is Tewkesbury Abbey, which has dominated the town’s landscape for nearly 900 years. There is a wealth of historic buildings nestled within the characteristic streets, though. You also find plenty of places for food and drink, independent shops, galleries, and a good choice of accommodation.

Certainly in the top 10, perhaps even in the top 5 of the most impressive cathedrals in the UK.

Lovely to cycle around just be careful of the shared space with pedestrians, always busy with visitors. Lots of lovely cycleways around to explore.
