This section of the a40 has no shoulder or pavement so I don't recommend riding a bike here anytime other than late into a summer evening.

A lovely road to take with great scenery. Better to head towards Northwood Green or Blaisdon afterwards to avoid the busy and not too cycling friendly A48.

The marina offers 300 flood protected moorings for boats. It's on the River Avon but with easy access to the River Severn. It's a great place to have a break and watch the boast.

A beautiful church which is somewhat hidden in the trees and is next to a tithe barn. The road on which it is located is also a very quiet and picturesque road to take.

Yummy, yummy, yummy I've got love in my tummy.... and a few pastries and some coffee too. Perfectly placed for a stop if you're riding from Gloucester and out to the Forest of Dean or the Brecon Beacons. Check opening times before you set off though as it's not open every day. And it's best in sunny weather so you can sit on the benches outside!

Ace, traffic-free trail. A nice break from some of the surrounding roads. :)

No idea who these carved wooden statues represent, but they are impressive and beautiful. I named my bike "Rosinante"... but I haven't tried tilting at any windmills... yet!

Tewkesbury Abbey is a magnificent place of worship in the heart of town. The Grade I-listed building was originally founded as Benedictine Abbey in 1087. After the dissolution of the monasteries, it became the parish church. You can observe wonderful Norman architecture at the abbey and admire stained glass windows that have survived from the 15th century. The abbey grounds are a pleasant place to relax, too.

Tewkesbury is a pretty medieval town in the Cotswolds set beside the River Severn. Perhaps the most famous attraction is Tewkesbury Abbey, which has dominated the town’s landscape for nearly 900 years. There is a wealth of historic buildings nestled within the characteristic streets, though. You also find plenty of places for food and drink, independent shops, galleries, and a good choice of accommodation.

A nice way into or out of Gloucester which avoids the busier roads.

Brendon was the site of a Saxon monastery dedicated to St Peter, which was probably burnt by the Danes. The current church was started at the end of the 12th century. The church can be seen from the M5. If you cycle just past the church and down Dock Lane, there is a place to stop by the river and take a moment.

A Grade II listed church that forms part of the wider Severnside Benefice, which comprises the Parishes of Chaceley, Forthampton, Deerhurst with Apperley and Tredington with Stoke Orchard and Hardwicke. The tower is 13th century. In the churchyard there is a whipping post and stocks. The post has manacles and stocks for three which have survived from 1787.
