Very moody woods when I went with the mist

According to local legend, the pool is bottomless, and home to a sinister mermaid referred to as Jenny Greenteeth. The Doxey Pool mermaid waits to lure unsuspecting waters into her bottomless pool, to their deaths.

Perhaps the aforementioned mermaid has claimed a victim or two because the hi-vis brigade have seen need for a fence to be erected all around the pool. My dog raced ahead in anticipation of being able to have a splash but was gutted to find it fenced off. Bit of a shame

Lovely place for a hike with a family and a dog. I did it on a gravel bike recently but there are some serious hike a bike sections where you’re required to dismount of your bike

Lots of road parking just keep driving around if not farmer opens field for £2 whole day

Thor's Cave is a limestone Karst cave accessible above the River Manifold. It's a popular destination but very much worth the detour if you're running in this area.

A plaque commemorating the royal visit in 1872 of the Prince and Princess of Teck. The Princess went on to become the mother of Queen Mary, the wife of King George V. From here there is a lovely view down over the steps to the nature reserve and Hen Cloud.

It is worth stopping by the Information Barn, located next to the public toilets in Milldale, if you would like to learn more about the history and geology of Milldale and Dovedale.

A lovely quaint English village nestled in the countryside provides a most welcome area for a quick rest and refreshments.

Dove Holes are shallow and easy to access and explore from the path. They were formed during the 2 ice ages by glacial water erosion, the caves became dry as the water cut deeper into the gorge (Dovedale Wikipedia). According to 'Lets Go PeakDistrict' These caves have seen human inhabitation since 13,000BC, when the first Upper Paleolithic hunters used them for shelter. In more recent history, there is evidence that Neolithic farmers used the caves as tombs about 4,500 years ago. Some of the items found from within the caves are displayed in Buxton Museum.

Impressive Cave by the River Dove, if you are lucky you may get to spot a few climbers scaling the ceilings.

Thoroughly stunning views across to the reservoir and totally worth the effort to get to the top of the roaches.

Such a relief to find these knowing they lead back to the car after a long walk, some last bits to explore on the way back down, but a thoroughly enjoyable day.

Fair few steps up to the top but a nice clear track all the way. If there are already people in the cave you will hear them about a KM before getting there.
