beautiful walk. one of my favorites

Part of the Leek Branch of the Caldon Canal the pool allows boats to turn around before the tunnel. The Churnet Way long distance walking trail and NCN 559 follow the canal towpath past the pool.

This is a nice easy canal side circular walk starting at the hollybush inn denford

Definitely recommend walking this short section in both directions, up and down

Steep ascent going up to circa 20 deg but highly recommended to keep your fitness up 😁

It’s located between Ipstones and Above Church village. From the road just follow the farm and you’re there. Did I mention it’s on a private land 🫢?

After this point we went to a tea room, which was nice and quaint. The next part of the route then takes you across some fields. Unfortunately, there was cows and bulls loose in the field and we didn’t feel confident walking through them. We chose to take a side road near the tea room and Komoot redirected us another way.

GRVL trail runs through some farm gates and it's BUSY at milking time.

Nice little path between canal bridge and deused Cheddleton railway track

Natural walkway to Tittesworth reservoir. Can be ridden on chunky tires gravel bike/MTB too. Not sure if you can cycle around the reservoir though :(

The main canal path is really well surfaced however this section over the tunnel has a number of steep steps and pointless gates and obstacles, while there is a path to avoid the steps all of the gates are locked so you’ll still have to struggle with the bike

Needs some serious upgrading to make this properly accessible to most riders

Cheddleton Flint Mill is a splendid example of a watermill that ground flint for the local pottery industry. It was built sometime around 1760, possibly under the stewardship of the great canal engineer James Brindley. Today, the mill has been fully restored to working order, is Grade II-listed and makes for a fascinating visit. It houses a small museum that offers education to schools and a wealth of information for visitors.

Quite fittingly these old carriages are at the end of the line.
