Social history on the common - and a lovely ginnell around the village

Rodborough Fort is a historical landmark perched ontop of Rodborough Hill near Stroud. Its hilltop vantage point meant it played a vital rote in strategic defence during different periods of history. You can read about the fort at its location and learn more about its fascinating past.

Minchinhampton Common is a National Trust owned area of Cotswold scarp top located above the Stroud Valleys and Severn Estuary. Its elevated position affords you some wonderful views across the neighbouring towns and villages, as well as over the valley and, on a clear day, across the Severn Way to Wales. Its open and spacious feel makes a wonderful place for a dog walk or for the kids to run around and burn some energy.

Set on Minchinhampton Common, the outdoor seating at this popular pub has great views out across the Cotswolds. Open daily from 12.

Situated at the top of a hill on the Cotswold escarpment, the pretty town of Minchinhampton is an ancient market town and a good stop-off for a mid-ride coffee. Minchinhampton Common is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and looked after by the National Trust - the summer wildflowers and butterflies are incredible.

Nice little town to cycle through. Generally quiet as not a very convenient through route for drivers. Can be narrow in places so more of a steady paced route options.

A charming Cotswold's village with plenty of amenities.

Several shops, cafes and pubs in this compact town. A good place to stop for refreshments and stock up on provisions.

Nice views, probably best avoided on windy days as it's exposed.

Another section of the lovely lane that lead from Avening through Cherington and places further afield, such as Sapperton, Tarlton, Rodmarton, Kemble and Cirencester.

Climb out of Stroud onto the common was steep and a bit busy with traffic near the town but riding across the common and dodging the roaming cows is great!
