Nice road with little traffic and nice views

The Knights Hospitaller Castle in Skarszewy - a Gothic, 14th-century castle located in Skarszewy, Pomeranian Voivodeship. The castle towers over a bend of the Wietcisa River. It was built in the years 1320-1334 by the Order of St. John, on the site of an older stronghold.

The oldest part of the city - on this side of the Wierzyca River, there used to be a farm and a village belonging to Piotr Święca. Shortly after he sold the local lands to the Teutonic Knights, in 1305, under the direction of Theodotus from Florence, they began to mark out the area for the development of a new settlement. In this way, a spatial layout was created with a regular network of streets radiating from the centrally located square market square, which is larger than the Old Town Square in Warsaw.

Its construction began after the knights of the Teutonic Order settled on the left bank of the Wierzyca, which they acquired from the Święce family in 1305. They immediately began to fortify the settlement and build a Gothic temple with a basilica-style architectural layout within the defensive walls.

The current town hall building dates back to the early 19th century. Built on Gothic foundations. In 1893 it was finally rebuilt. It represents the neo-Renaissance style. It is located in the middle of the Market Square.

Church of St. Catherine in Starogard Gdański was built in 1802 on the foundations of a medieval church, and in 2003 the facility was entered into the register of monuments. It is the first Gothic church in this place built in the 15th century. It was originally built on the eastern side of the city walls, next to the old mill canal. It was probably a temple with a wooden frame, filled with brick. From 1577 it was used by Lutherans.

The market square in Starogard Gdański is the oldest part of the city. In the Middle Ages, on the left bank of the Wierzyca River, there was a farm and a village that belonged to Piotr Święca. After selling them to the Teutonic Knights, around 1305, they began to mark out the area for the development of a fortified settlement. At that time, the construction works were supervised by Theodotus from Florence, to whom Starogard owes its spatial shape with a regular network of streets radiating from the centrally located market square, whose square of 107 m × 107 m is larger than the Old Town Square in Warsaw. Without a doubt, the Teutonic Order contributed to the economic development of the town.

For centuries, the most important place in every city has been the market square. Usually, when locating new cities, new streets were designed with reference to the market axis. The most important facilities for the residents were also located here, such as the seat of the municipal authorities and the municipal well. Similarly, in Skarszewy, for centuries the market square was the central square where fairs, games, protests and executions took place. Tenement houses of the city's richest inhabitants were also built around the market square and the best shops were opened.
