A well stocked shop and pub which is the perfect place for a cycle pitstop. No worries about queues, locking up bike etc.... Bench seating outside the pub with some shade from the trees. Minimal detour even if you're on the lap of the reservoir

I choose not to stop for coffee and cake as it's a little expensive and they don't accept cash. Their business so it's up to them but I choose to go elsewhere where they do accept coin of the realm.

Bromham Mill Coffee Shop is a charming café located within the historic Bromham Mill complex and is a great place to grab some refreshments on your ride

"The church of St Lawrence in Willington is situated to the west of the village, close by the National Trust properties of the Willington Dovecote and Stables. Limited parking is available by the roadside outside the church or in the Dovecote car park." It's a very nice place. I enjoyed relaxing and taking a portion of peace of mind.

Don't follow Komoot strictly (like I did) 😉 - obey the signs from farmer/landowner & NCN signs - small mistakes can be forgiven, I suppose, when we new to the area.

Ampthill is a historic market town located in Central Bedfordshire that dates back to 1219. There are a number of great cafés, pubs and restaurants to discover including The White Hart and Surtin Café.

The cycle path along the top of the dam is wide and flat and gives great views across the reservoir. Reach it from the Visitor Centre at the northern end although access at the southern end is trickier as you have to squeeze through a narrow gap next to a locked gate by the main road.
