This is a particularly fine stretch of the river Wye, as recognized by the Wye Valley National Landscape. The stretched out village of Hoarwithy occupies the west bank, with its unusual Italianate St Catherine's church. The river is crossed by the old toll bridge with it's little Tollhouse - they stopped collecting tolls in the 1930's when the bridge was bought for public ownership.

Holy Rood Church is a pretty parish church that is synonymous with the Mordiford Dragon; the legend of which has changed with the paintings of it in the church. Holy Rood has a 12th century core with a 13th century but was largely rebuilt in 1811 after flooding. It is Grade II-listed.

A stroll away from roads, muddy tracks but beautiful snowdrops and primroses in bloom alongside a meandering stream.

Two gallery spaces of contemporary art - chiefly paintings and sculpture - with some prestigious guest artists exhibiting their work, surrounded by extensive grounds containing large contemporary sculpture pieces. And it's presented free of charge by the owner/curator and most pieces are for sale). The whole collection is set in one of the most beautiful, tranquil parts of Herefordshire; not a doddle to find but certainly worth the effort. It also features a small tea room. The POI marker is at the furthest point of the park; the entrance is down that road on the right-angle bend.

September 2020 and the New Harp is open again and looking good after a big re-fit during lockdown. I don’t know how it is yet, though. I went past yesterday and there was quite a crowd of patrons outside.
