The forest stretches along the River Lagan and has a surprising variety of plants and animals to experience as you drive through. Old oak trees and dense foliage cast shadows along the path and if you look closely you might spot a kingfisher by the water or hear the faint call of long-eared owls in the branches. What makes Belvoir special is its history. In the middle of the forest lies an old Norman motte from the 12th century - a reminder of times gone by that makes the forest seem even more mystical. The gigantic fungi and rare plants such as the scaly root also give this place its own charm. The trails here are pleasant and offer you the right mix of challenge and relaxation. Craigavon Balancing Lakes, referred locally as 'The Lakes' are a set of man-made lakes built in the 1970s to control flooding. The route around the lakes is entirely flat and follows a mixture of paved and gravel paths close to the shoreline, which creates some wonderful water views as you jog along.
