Highfields Park was part of an estate built and landscaped in the late 18th and early 19th century. In 1920 Sir J Boot bought the estate and used it as the site of the East Midlands University (now Nottingham University). Highfileds House became part of the university and is currently used as a staff annexe. The landscape was re-modelled to suit the setting, with the joining of the fishing pond and small boating lake to become the larger lake we see today. The public can walk around Highfields Park. The circuit of the lake is a nice, gentle walk within the city.

A Local Nature Reserve in Nottinghamshire The Netherfield Lagoons, Local Nature Reserve is situated on the Trent Valley Flood Plain in Nottinghamshire and has been partly used as a dump for coal slurry but with two remaining gravel ponds. The two slurry pits are separated by a raised causeway, which is elevated some 50 feet (15 m) above the pits, giving a commanding view of the area. The largest tank is virtually full but retains some water, with muddy edges attractive to waders and roosting gulls and terns. The smaller tank is mainly deep water, attracting good numbers of wildfowl, with smaller birds, especially warblers, feeding and breeding around the tank edges. The boating lake is park of Highfields Park. The lake is an extension of the fishing lake built in the late 18th centaury. The founder of Boots bought the estate in 1920 and used it a s a base for the University of Nottingham.

St Peter's is one of the three mediaeval parish churches in Nottingham, the others being St Mary's and St Nicholas. The parish of St. James' Church, Standard Hill, founded in 1807 was united with St Peter's in 1933 and the official title "St Peter with St James" came into being. (St James's was demolished a few years later; some monuments from St James's are preserved in St Peter's.) The church shows traces of many stages of construction from about 1180 onwards (the original church of around 1100 was destroyed by fire). Inn, which claims to be the oldest on the island (tough it does not seem to be alone with the claim). The name together with its believed origin on the coronation year of Richard I. is a great example of British humor.

Great park for a jog- good paved paths, and rougher tracks to choose from, nice views, easy access.

Lovely location on the Trent. Lots of easy, flat, traffic-free roads around here. Regularly use this as a lunch stop on rides in the southern half of the Vale of Belvoir. There is an easy 30 mile loop to Newark and back, going through quiet lanes up one side of the Trent and back down the other. I have used the riverside Unicorn pub as an overnight base for cycle-touring in this area.

Very nice village next to the Trent. Easily accessed by the cycle way. Suitable for all riders.

A trip to Nottingham would be incomplete without a trip to Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem, which has the claim to be being the oldest inn in the England. It really is an amazing pub, which is built into, and partly carved into into the Sherwood Sandstone cliffs behind it. It's a friendly pub with good pies, ales and cider, so well worth stopping by to spend some quality time in!

It is part of the parish of All Saints', St Mary's and St Peter's, Nottingham. The church is Grade I listed by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as a building of outstanding architectural or historic interest.

Really beautifully maintained village with a lot of charm. Worth stopping for a snack by the bridge on the riverside.
