The Church of St Peter is found at the west end of the village of Letwell, near Rotherham, in South Yorkshire. The church was built around 1375 by John Mauleverer, but has been substantially altered several times. Much of the church was later rebuilt in 1820, at the expense of Henry Gally Knight FRS, the owner of Firbeck Hall, but was largely destroyed by fire a few decades later. The tower, along with the vestry are all that remain of the church following a fire which occurred in 1867. The fire was inadvertently started by one Harry Radley, who was sexton at the time. In response to complaints from the parishioners that they were too cold, he had over-stoked the coal-fired boiler which led to the fire. The church today consists of the 14th century tower with a Victorian nave and apse. It is Grade II* listed.

King’s Wood Lane is a peaceful, open road that forms part of the Rotherham Local Cycle Network, connecting King’s Wood with Laughton-en-le-Morthen. Be sure to stop by the café at Leger Lakes, just before reaching Laughton-en-le-Morthen.

Opened in 1892 by the Manchester, Sheffield and Lincolnshire Railway, Killamarsh Central had two platforms, each with a timber building and a large canopy. The station closed to the public in 1963 when local services on the Great Central were discontinued. The platforms and sidings remained in use for goods traffic until 1965.

When in Firbeck take a wander out onto the Old Airfield, down the left side of the church and follow the path across the field, and read the memorial to the pilots who were trained there during WW2 and the years immediately after. Firbeck is also home to Firbeck Hall, a grand Victorian manor house built in 1594 by William West.

please be aware you can get to the cycle lane this way as it's blocked off

If riding from Sheffield, this is the first bit of 'proper' peace and quiet you get when heading East. Not many easy ways to get up here so the first views of the flatlands ahead are very welcome!

An interesting cable-stayed footbridge over the river Rother near the northern lake in Rother Valley Country Park. The bridge was designed in the 1980's to withstand bank subsidence. It connects the country park with the Waleswood area.

Great place to stop and enjoy the view. Seems to be a nice place for sunset and in the afternoon/evening. You can sit on the bench or there is a grassy area overlooking the fields.

Rother Valley Country Park is composed of four lakes, nature reserves and areas of parkland. The park was built on land that was open cast for coal, with the main excavation sites filled by the artificial lakes. These days, it is a popular place to visit for recreation and relaxation. There are plenty of gravel trails to explore. It can get busy at times, however, so be mindful of others.
