Ideally situated refuge hut. People have left helpful items like hand warmers, tea bags, plasters & saline flushes

The Rocky Island headland used to be the site of a coastguard lookout. Jutting into the North Sea, you can get a great view up and down the coast. The seawatching hut is owned by the Northumberland & Tyneside Bird Club, but visiting guests are usually welcome if someone from the club is present.

Bothy is in a wonderful location but was closed due to structural damage when we passed (August 2024)

Founded in 1965, the Mountain Bothies Association exists to maintain remote buildings for which the owner has little or no use, yet remain important to walkers and others who make use of the shelter that they provide. Green Bothy is located in the Wark Forest and has three rooms and a wood burning stove.

The Baa is a hostel and campsite with its own pub. This small, unique and quirky little pub has a cobblestone floor and plenty of sheep related decorations. It serves local ales and its own range of sheep themed cocktails. In the garden are giant viking statues, thought to have been used as film props for the series Beowulf.

Great little place to stumble across - was surprised how busy this was with locals milling around, having a chat etc.

Sleeping platforms for 6 and plenty of extra floor space. There's also a stove and composting toilet.
