Without a doubt, the Sanctuary of Cortes is the most visited place in the province of Albacete. In 1976, an article by W. A. Christian on Spanish sanctuaries had been published; in it he made a classification of the importance of these centers of popular devotion, today also called local, based on the geographical area occupied by the devotees who went to each one of them; established four national sanctuaries and a dozen regional ones; Among the latter was that of the Virgin of Cortes de Alcaraz, this being the only one in the Castilian-La Mancha region that was considered to be of this category. From this, without a doubt, it was inferred that the Cortes was a very significant sanctuary, and today it maintains that character.
