In winter, a cross-country track is set up on the Llano de Lizara, which is managed from the refuge itself. Certification according to ISO 14001 was a pioneering experience in Spain and the Pyrenees in terms of mountain refuges, where a model of environmental management is supported with the installation of renewable energy sources, the regular practice of selective waste collection and environmental awareness campaigns.

It is the hardest climb that can be faced in the Hecho Valley. Since you take the detour from the main road (the one that connects the town of Hecho with the Selva de Oza), it is approximately 8 km, with a first km downhill and flat, and the next 7 km with an average of 7 %. It is a constant climb, with some ramps above 10% when leaving one of the several horseshoe curves on the climb. The road is narrow but is in perfect condition. It is a climb with hardly any views of the valley since it is covered and surrounded by trees and a lot of vegetation.
