impressive construction in the middle of nowhere

The La Torica aqueduct was built in the 19th century as a work linked to the new railway route. In fact, it gets its name from the nickname of the locomotive that pulled the train.

The relief of the municipality is characterized by the so-called Calanda Desert, an arid area with little rainfall, only softened by the presence of the Martín River, which crosses the territory to the west. The Hermitage of Santa Quiteria is located towards the train station and to the left, you arrive at the hermitage, where water miraculously flows in such an arid land.

Despite being located close to the banks of the Ebro River and next to Escatrón, the monastery is located in the municipality of Sástago. Nice place to visit.

Built in 1875, on a peak in a meander of the Ebro river, to have excellent visibility of the surrounding towns, the Fortín de Sástago is one of the 45 optical towers that were built from Zaragoza to Amposta following the course of the Ebro river during the Third Carlist War.

Near the Tower we find this beautiful viewpoint where it is worth stopping and contemplating the panoramic view that the meanders of the Ebro River, Sástago and other well-explained places give us on an information panel.

The Drum Tower is a defensive construction (rifle fort) found in the vila de Sássatgo, very characteristic of the 19th century. It is located on the slope of the Ebro Valley in front of the town of Sástago. Near the Tower there is a beautiful viewpoint where it is worth stopping and contemplating the panoramic view that the meanders of the Ebro River, Sástago and other well-explained places give us on an information panel.
