It can be reached by following the Canal de Castilla from Cabezón de Pisuerga towards Alar del Rey. It is located about 5 km from the center of Cabezón. It is one of the 49 locks that the Canal de Castilla had. They were built to overcome the difference in elevation, allowing the passage of barges through a system of gates that leveled the water.

The monumental Church of Santiago is a grandiose project begun in 1535 under the design of Rodrigo Gil de Hontañon, considered one of the introducers of the Renaissance in Spain. His project was finally carried out by Juan de Saravia and Diego de Praves, and was completed in 1772.
