Located near the town of Cuenca that shares its name, the dam was inaugurated in 1958. It stands 78.10 meters high and has a water storage capacity of 1,638 hm³ across an area of 8,194 hectares. Its waters flow through, among other towns, Buendía, Alcocer, Alcohujate, and Villalba del Rey. From the dam, one can access the route to the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Forsaken, a favorite spot well worth visiting.

Such a sacred monument shows the faithful devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which was once deeply rooted in popular piety. This tradition can be traced back three and a half centuries in church history, but is probably even older. The arms of Jesus, often spread wide on these statues, are not meant to remind us of the crucified Christ, but rather to represent an invitation to the loving embrace of the Son of God.

This time we went down to the River through the Presa tunnel.

The Embalse Dam and the entire area is very touristy, suitable for quiet hiking.

There are amazing places in Guadalajara even for the people of this land. This route (Route SPG-47) takes you to one of those places, the Hermitage of the Virgen del Madroñal, a mystical environment with a privileged location on the waters of the Entrepeñas Reservoir.

The hill of La Coronilla offers us an impressive view and the Monument to the Heart of Jesus.

The town sits on the right bank of the Tagus River and belongs to the Comarca de la Alcarria. In the background we have the beautiful Entrepeñas reservoir that gives it some unique places. This land is rich in the production of oil and in its center the Plaza Mayor and the church of La Asunción stand out.
