The former Smurf village still has blue houses and wall paintings, but the freestanding figures are gone. We learned from residents that Sony demanded high licensing fees and so the figures disappeared.

A sign on the road points the way to the tree, halfway there is a chain, step over it, follow the winding path, be amazed by the enormous size of this beautiful old tree.

Júzcar, known as the Blue Village, is a picturesque village in the province of Málaga, famous for its blue-painted houses. This colour change was made in 2011 for the world premiere of the film "The Smurfs". Although it was initially a temporary campaign, the inhabitants decided to keep the blue colour due to the increase in tourism.

A chestnut tree that is hundreds of years old, its size leaves no doubt about it. It is incredible that there are no signs or indications. If you do not know where it is, it is essential to have a track and GPS that will take you to the point. It is difficult to see from the road (you must leave it and walk along a path for about 100m). It is certainly worth it, the tree is majestic, although depending on the time of year you visit it, it will be more or less leafy. It is advisable to observe it from different points, its trunk is not round and depending on the angle you will see it more or less thick and wide.

Hiking in October: note that when you get near to posas (round ice storage made of tiles) there could be flying a LOT of quite big insects. NOT a great place to have snack or take a break. They land on you and your food. Take a good amount of water and protein/salty lunch with you as the trail could be as long as 20 km if there might be a locked gate by the parking lot and it's 3 km from there to trail head. Start the hike early in the morning that you get back in daylight. You can also choose to come down the road but it's about 5 km and very boring. Might catch a stunning sunset above misty mountains though. 👍 We had Salomon parh running shoes and they were excellent for this hike. We recommend also to use walking poles: they help you to get up and down safely in steepest parts of this trail. Worth the hike to go here. Stunning views from the summit.

A wonderful path along a very old but still intact and used irrigation system. Well worth seeing and ideal for a small group with the family.
