Before the hike, arrange a taxi for the return trip from Vikos to Monodendri. Costs approximately €45 (2025). Drinking water sources are only available two-thirds of the way through. Hiking boots are recommended – there are short, rope-secured climbing sections.

A very impressive construction feat. That wasn't all that long ago, so until 1974 you really had to walk up these wonderful stairs to the next village if you wanted to visit? Admirable. We were also very impressed by this tour, great views and barely visible from the other side, these stairs built into the mountain.

The path from the plateau becomes narrower and you suddenly find yourself in a narrow rocky alley. It is a foretaste before you step out into the steep Vīkos Gorge, which is nowhere as visible as from the Belōi viewpoints. This rocky passage in front of you makes it even more exciting - nature has arranged it magnificently.

The path from Vradēto across the plateau is not a great challenge and not particularly spectacular. But at the end, the view from the Belōi viewpoint into the Vīkos Gorge awaits you - THE view par excellence, which no hiking tour through the Sagōria region should miss. The view into and over the gorge shows a fascinating mountain world.

The southeast view is a little more hidden, or a little away from the Belōi balcony. Here, too, you can see the Vīkos Gorge. The description of it as the deepest gorge in the world is a bit of a matter of opinion, based on different calculation methods. But when you're standing here, it doesn't matter. It's simply a wonderful, magnificent place that will delight anyone who loves the mountains.

The staircase stretches over 1100 steps and overcomes a height difference of around 250 metres, including 39 narrow curves. Until the 1970s, this staircase was the only way to and from Vradēto; the current road connection was not completed until 1974.

With the Vradēto steps, the journey is more the destination. But what would the steps be without the views of the landscape? The rocky flanks are impressive. The side view of the Mesariā Gorge is especially magnificent (even if it is "only" a little sister of the large Vīkos Gorge, into which it flows).

After the village was settled after 1600, Vradēto has had its own church since 1799, which was founded by Nikolaos Tsigaras. It is named after the Nativity of the Virgin Mary (officially: Ναός Γεννήσεως της Θεοτόκου = Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary). This is also the basis of the 3-day festival in Vradēto, which begins on September 8th.

It is THE view that adorns every travel guide and every travel report about the Sagōria region. The pictures speak for themselves - the view into the Vīkos Gorge is simply breathtaking. The designation as the deepest gorge in the world is a bit of a problem due to different calculation methods. But when you are standing here, it doesn't matter. It is simply a wonderful, magnificent place that will delight anyone who loves the mountains.

Between the Vradēto steps and the Belōi viewpoint, the village of Vradēto is a particularly good place to stop. There are several attractive places to stop for refreshments.

The bridge over the Gremvūra stream, which only occasionally carries water, is the connection between Vradēto or the Vradēto steps and Kapēsovo and Kīpi. There are more spectacular natural stone bridges in the area. But it is an important structure in the network of paths.
