Čigoč is a small village with just over 100 inhabitants, in the central part of Croatia, in the Lonjsko Polje nature reserve. The village is known as the Stork Village of Croatia and was even the first official Stork Village in Europe. The village consists of about seventy wooden houses, all of which now have a protected status. This is mainly due to the important cultural background of the houses, t

nice camping and base for walks and bike rides. The camping has a restaurant.

The village has well-preserved old wooden houses built in the traditional way along the entire main street. On the west side of the street there is a Sava bend which provides an important feeding area for the young birds.

With the help of EU funds, a lot is being achieved for the country here.

This is the largest marshland in Europe and therefore the breeding ground for storks. In September all storks have already left for their wintering place.

The houses are world heritage and the older ones may not be demolished. In case of flooding, lived temporarily on a higher floor.

It's great to bike here and special that no one has mentioned this on komoot yet.

The roofs on the sides give the houses here their charm.
