7월 16, 2025, Günzburg Town Center and Clock Tower
The city area was already settled in Roman times in ancient times. For over 500 years, Günzburg belonged to the Habsburg Empire and thus to Austria. It was not until 1806 that the city was incorporated into the Kingdom of Bavaria. The almost completely preserved historic old town is particularly charming. The center of Günzburg is surrounded by largely intact city fortifications. At the center lies Günzburg's market square, through which Marktstraße runs. This divides the old town into two parts. It is bordered by two stone towers with gates. The town tower at the western end was built in the 14th century and can be climbed via an internal staircase. Buildings from the 16th to 19th centuries line the narrow alleys. The Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady) is a magnificent Rococo building. The church was consecrated in 1780 and features an ornately decorated interior. The church was consecrated in 1780 and has a richly decorated interior. To create a bit more living space along the city wall, the facades on the upper floors were projected by the width of a beam. Beneath the plaster lies a simple half-timbered structure, the panels filled with wooden wickerwork. The same construction style can also be seen in Münzgasse (behind the southern city wall). What, after successful renovation (and equipped with all the amenities of modern living technology), is a beautiful residential area in the city center, was anything but a comfortable home without running water, sewage, electric light, and reasonable heating. In stark contrast to this are the tall, solidly built stone houses along the market square. Source: https://pages.et4.de/de/guenzburg/streaming/detail/POI/p_100047484/frauengaesschen-12

7월 16, 2025, Hofkirche Günzburg
The Court Church, preserved as a late Renaissance building, is Mannerist and still the true jewel of the square today. It was built in 1579/80. Details of this distinguished architectural style, such as Ionic columns and Corinthian capitals, are clearly visible inside the church. The sgraffito plaster has been reapplied to the west side of the church. The south-facing, single-nave, steeply erected, narrow church building is attached directly to the palace and thus does not have its own facade. The church can be entered either through an entrance in the archway of the original palace building or directly on the east side through a simple and straightforward entrance. The first water supply for the upper town was once the town stream, an open watercourse, comparable to the so-called "Bächle" (little streams) that still crisscross Freiburg im Breisgau today. As homeowners gradually dug their own wells or drew water from the piped fountains in the market square, the stream was dammed here to create a small pond for washing horses (horse watering place). Because the water was so shallow that one could wade in it, the place was soon called the "Wätte" (watering place). However, the whole thing didn't smell very pleasant, which is why the town physician had the Wätte filled in in 1792. Instead, the piglet market was held here on Tuesdays until the 1960s (!). During the redesign of the square (1990), this tradition was remembered, and the bronze pig trader ("Saubarthel") emerged from a design competition. ... 7월 15, 2025, Kreuzberg Chapel in Reisensburg
The Reisensburg Way of the Cross, with its 15 stations, was and remains – not least because of the paintings by Georg Lacher, Reisensburg's most important son – considered the most outstanding cross-hill in the district, and perhaps even in all of Swabia. Many visitors seek relaxation and the peace that emanates from this ancient place of worship. They bring their requests or offer thanks to God at the chapel. In 2013, local residents renovated the stations on a voluntary basis.

The Margrave Castle of Günzburg, together with the former court church of St. Trinity and the current town hall, forms a monumental focal point in the urban fabric of the Bavarian town of Günzburg. The castle is the only Habsburg residence located in Germany today. Large parts of the building are now used as a tax office. Source: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Markgrafenschloss_G%C3%BCnzburg

A residential area where people lived within their own three walls. For cost reasons, the poorer citizens built their houses directly along the city wall (= fourth wall), and they were content with small plots of land.

6월 12, 2025, Hofkirche Günzburg
The Court Church was built in 1579/80 and is one of the few surviving late Renaissance churches in southern Germany. Details of this architectural style, such as Ionic columns and Corinthian capitals, are clearly visible inside. In 1755, Joseph Dossenberger the Younger added a Rococo-style side chapel on behalf of the neighboring Piarist College, for which the building served as a school church. It is dedicated to the order's founder, Blessed Joseph of Calasanza. The church is now deconsecrated; however, a sensitive restoration between 2004 and 2006 restored much of the building's former splendor.
