The original city gate of Valbona was probably located further up the hillside, in the upper part of today's Via G. Mazzini, within the second ring of city walls dating from the 12th century. With the construction of the third ring of city walls between the 13th and 14th centuries, this gate was rebuilt further down in the valley at its present location.

The oratory was built around 1643 and served as a meeting and place of worship for a lay brotherhood, the Confraternita delle Cinque Piaghe ("Brotherhood of the Five Wounds"). The brotherhood was an association of lay people who sought to emulate Christ's Passion through piety, charity, and social support—with strong reference to the five wounds as their central symbol.

The Palazzo Corboli Aquilini is one of the city's most important mansions. It houses the Regional Agency for the Right to University Education.

Five main streets converge here: Via Mazzini, Via Cesare Battisti, Via Vittorio Veneto, Corso Garibaldi, and Via Raffaello. On the north side is the Raffaello College, founded in the 18th century by order of Pope Clement XI.

The Palazzo Ducale in Urbino is a Renaissance palace and houses the famous Renaissance picture gallery of the Marche.
