Falset is the capital of the Priorat region and its wines. Thanks to its location and variety of services, it is the ideal point to start and end any bike route through the region and taste its typical products, especially wine.

A must stop to enjoy the views offered by the Guiamets marsh viewpoint in the Priorat region.

This museum gives you the opportunity to enter the galleries on the first floor of the Eugenia mine. In the past, these mines were the most important mining operations in the Priorat basin. You can visit the museum alone (admission costs three euros) or combine it with a guided tour of the mine (eight euros).

Falset is the capital of Priorat. It is located in a valley surrounded by mountains and in the very center of the Siurana river basin. The town has a castle built in the 12th century. Two queens were born in it: Eleonor of Cyprus and Margarita de Prades. From 1825 and for more than a century it was used as a prison. Currently, it houses the Museum of Falset and the region.

At the end of the 19th century, all of Catalonia suffered an economic downturn that coincided with an attack by the phylloxera insect, which killed the vineyards. This led to the depopulation of many towns. However, in this area, the decline was not as severe as in others thanks to the railway line, which played a fundamental role in the wine trade, as it quickly connected the consuming and producing areas, ensuring that the wine arrived at its destination in better condition.

There are lovely views of the reservoir from the road that crosses the village of Els Guiamets. Following the road down to the reservoir leads to the viewpoint.
