The San Millán or Torruco peak is one of the giants of the Sierra de la Demanda, it has an altitude of 2,131 meters and is the geographical ceiling of the province of Burgos. The relative smoothness of the southern slopes facilitate the possibility of designing different trail running itineraries to the pingorota at the top, which has splendid views and is always comforting after the endless climb from Pineda de la Sierra.

Pineda was an important center for nomadic cattle ranching during the Middle Ages. The urban complex preserves its mountain character between the San Millán massif and the Sierra de Mencilla, it has magnificent manor houses with red ashlars in sandstone from the sierra. The church of San Esteban preserves the original Romanesque-style apse and a beautiful arcaded gallery. The town is in the path of the Vía Verde de la Demanda and other great routes for hiking, cycling and active leisure.
