The Plaza de la Catedral in Almería is an emblematic space located in front of the Cathedral of the Incarnation. This square has been the scene of important sociocultural events and has undergone several renovations over the years. In the 1970s, the square was used for the filming of the American film Patton. The most recent renovation, carried out between 1999 and 2000 by architects Alberto Campo and Modesto Sánchez, resulted in the current plaza, adorned with palm trees. The square also features a bronze statue of Diego Ventaja, the Bishop of Almería martyred during the Civil War. This statue was created by the sculptor Pérez Comendador.

The Cathedral of the Incarnation in Almería, also known as the Holy and Apostolic Cathedral-Fortress Church of the Incarnation, is an architectural gem that combines elements of late Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque, and Neoclassical architecture. It was built between 1524 and 1562, and its design includes defensive features such as battlements and turrets, reflecting the attacks of Barbary pirates at the time.

The view from the Alcazaba over the city and the bay is exceptional. In turn, the Alcazaba is visible from the sea up to 55 kilometres from the coast on clear days.

The mineral loading station, known as the “Cable Inglés”, is located on the Playa de las Almadrabillas, next to the east pier and at the end of a railway branch. It was initially owned by the English mining company “The Alquife Mines Railway Limited” (hence its name), which acquired the concession in 1901 and began construction immediately in 1902. It is a good example and a masterpiece of iron architecture at the beginning of the 20th century. Its construction was made possible by the construction of the port and the railway. The style is eclectic, but introduces a new architectural expression characterized by the use of new materials such as iron. It is surrounded by the beach and a bridge connecting it to the station. It consists of two parts: the access that connects the station to the loading station and the loading point itself, through which the trains could unload directly into the holds of the ships. Its access begins at the end of the track, and the central part rests on large round arches on pillars of carved stone, separated by metal parts on the base of large iron beams. In 1998 it was declared a Cultural Asset due to its historical, symbolic and visual importance.

The former main building of the station is a fine example of the iron architecture typical of the industrial and functional buildings of the second half of the 19th century. Due to its properties and ability to support heavy loads and to span large areas, iron prevailed over traditional building materials (stone and brick). Glass, used on walls and roofs, was very suitable for obtaining light and translucent structures. The main façade, facing the station square, corresponds to a tripartite structure, with the central and most important part built with the two most typical materials of the new architecture: iron and glass. At the entrance to the building, a huge stained glass window was created as a monumental portico, suitable for welcoming travelers who used this new means of transport. Stone and brick, coated with glazed ceramic, were used on the sides.
