It stretches along the eastern bank of the Tagus River and is the second most populated municipality in the province and the fourth in Castilla-La Mancha. Among its monuments is the Basilica of Our Lady of the Prado, which houses the city's patron saint. It was called the Queen of Hermitages by Philip II and is also known as the Sistine Chapel of ceramics, because this vibrant art form has been displayed here in all its splendor from the 16th century to the present day. Its architectural style is a combination of Renaissance and Baroque, although it has undergone several restorations over the centuries. It was elevated to the status of a Basilica in 1989 by Pope John Paul II. In the Church of Santa María La Mayor (La Colegial), you can admire its pure Gothic cloister, which was built around 1469. Its floor plan is rectangular, consisting of three longitudinal naves and no transept. The two upper sections of the tower were added in 1704 and 1705.

Beautiful city located on a river terrace of the Tagus River. Known as the City of Ceramics, due to the quality, variety and richness of ceramic production, whose history dates back to the 15th century, and we can see its examples in the Prado Gardens.

Going up the Avellaneda stream, we find this place of pilgrimage just three kilometers from Arenas de San Pedro. The native of Alcántara (Cáceres, Extremadura), ordered the construction of a convent next to the Hermitage of San Andrés del Monte. However, the early death of San Pedro de Alcántara would cause the course of the convent to change, and a chapel was also built in his honor, with plans by Ventura Rodríguez and the approval of H.M. Carlos III, where his body rests, guarded by a marble sculpture behind the main altar. Declared a national historical-artistic monument in 1972, this place also houses a museum with iconographic material of the saint, sacred works by, among others, Goya, Murillo and Pedro de Mena; as well as a library created in 1562, attached to the convent, with 18,000 volumes dating from the 16th century to the present, including an incunabulum, and a convent archive. The place can be visited from Tuesday to Sunday with split hours and depending on religious celebrations.
