A beautiful town in the Catalan Prepirieo where there is a wonderful restaurant where you can enjoy typical Catalan dishes of an excellent standard.

Sant Sadurní de Rotgers is a church in the municipality of Borredà (Berguedà) declared a cultural asset of national interest. Description The church of Sant Sadurní de Rotgers, former rural parish and later suffragan of Santa Maria de Borredà, is located within the property of mas Torrents, in the northern sector of the municipality, in a wooded and unpopulated area, difficult to access. The church stands at an altitude of 976 m, on the back of a small mountain, where remains of an ancient medieval settlement have been found.[1] The church is a small building with a nave, covered with a slightly pointed barrel vault and topped to the east by a semicircular apse, defectively fitted to the nave, and responds to two different constructive moments. The nave, made of well-hewn ashlars in regular rows, is covered with a pointed vault and stone slabs. Above the nave was built the two-story tower bell tower with semicircular arch openings on the first level and twin openings on the second. Around the church there is a dry stone wall that closes the perimeter of what was, until the beginning of the s. XX, the cemetery.[2] The nave was redone in the twelfth century and attached to the apse of the eleventh century, which is decorated externally with arches and Lombard bands and a frieze of saw teeth, and internally with a frieze of opus spicatum. The coupling between the two is solved by means of a very peculiar fold, divided in height into two sections: one covered with a barrel vault (the one closest to the apse, which would correspond to the primitive nave), and the other with round quarter of a sphere, in order to gain the cover, much higher. The new building, consecrated in 1167, has a simple portal at noon and is crowned by the bell tower. From a typological point of view, it maintains obvious links with the church of Sant Andreu de Llanars (Osona).[1] https://ca.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sant_Sadurn%C3%AD_de_Rotgers

The sanctuary of Our Lady of Montgrony is one of the main centers of Marian devotion in Ripollès. Located about 15 km from Gombrèn, in the middle of some imposing rocks, in a place full of history and legends, at an altitude of 1,380 meters. It is a place that Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer described as “the egg yolk of Catalonia”. It is a spectacular place with natural balconies that provide us with stunning panoramic views, which take from Pedraforca to Montseny, surrounded by pastures and pine forests, with a great feeling of peace and tranquility. We will see an interesting Romanesque church and the sanctuary dedicated to a meeting goddess. The sanctuary of Montgrony is attached to the large rock that climbs the stairs that lead to the Pla de Sant Pere. This staircase begins at the inn, the sanctuary is halfway up the staircase and has the bare rock as its northern wall. An image of the Virgin Mary is worshiped. She is a black virgin, largely rebuilt after an accidental fire in 1892 destroyed the old one. The image of the Virgin Mary, called "of milk" because it was believed to bring back the missing milk of the nursing mothers, is a 12th century carving. Tradition has it that it was found in 804 after it was hidden during the Saracen invasion, so it is an image of what is known as the "found goddess". The first records of the cult of the Virgin of Montgrony date back to 1400, when there was already a small building on the site. The modern building was built in 1652. We can also stay there and have a good meal. It is the place where the legend of Count Arnau was born and where we can visit an interpretation center that presents us with another legendary figure who, according to some authors of the Renaixença, would have been the initiator of the Catalan nation: The inn was renovated in 2001 and offers a bar, restaurant and hotel service.

Very interesting monastery just above Gombren. The hike is not super easy but not overly difficult. A couple of steep sections but overall a good walk. Above the Monastery there is a small chapel.

The sanctuary or chapel of Santa Maria de Montgrony is a Marian sanctuary in the diocese of Vic, located in Montgrony. It is located on the cliffs of the Sierra de Sant Pere, about 1370 meters above sea level, in the municipality of Gombrèn, in the Catalan region of Ripollès. [1] Just above the cliff where the chapel is located is the church of Sant Pere de Montgrony. It is one of the main centers of Marian devotion in Ripollès and even in the neighboring counties. It is attached to the large rock that climbs the bold staircase that leads to the Pla de Sant Pere. This staircase begins in the great hospitality of the sanctuary, and the chapel or sanctuary itself is in the middle of the staircase and has as its wall on the north side the bare rock. An image of the Virgin Mary is worshiped. She is a black virgin, largely rebuilt after an accidental fire in 1892 destroyed the old one, probably from the beginning of the thirteenth century, which had probably already been venerated in St. Peter's Church. The first news of the cult of the Virgin of Mogrony is from 1400, when it already had a small building in its current location. The modern building was built in 1650-52. A tradition has it that it was found in 804 by a shepherd and an ox from Can Camps, near a fountain a quarter of an hour from the sanctuary, halfway up the coast, where a chapel with a allusive inscription and an engraved image that releases water through the breasts; that is why she has been called the Virgin of Milk and advocate for women breastfeeding their children. Source, image and inscription, which speaks of the first and legendary Hug of Mataplana in 804, are the work of the seventeenth century, contemporaries of the time of construction of the sanctuary. The hospitality industry was renovated and expanded in the eighteenth century — a project to build a large shrine was not carried out — and will be so again in the last third of the twentieth century, when a forest track from the bridge of La Foradada or Garfull to the Coll Roig, which leaves the road from Campdevànol to Guardiola de Berguedà (a small branch of 700 m. connects the sanctuary and the hospitality industry).

Absolutely spectacular cliffside former monastery, you can now visit and eat here with spectacular views down through the valley. Even just the road leading in is breathtaking, let alone the gorgeous architecture. There's also a water fountain and toilets here.
