The Castillo de las Torres is a fortress located in the municipality of Monesterio, in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura. It is believed that due to its typology it could date from the 15th or 16th century. This castle is located on a small rocky hill, near the Torres stream and the road that connects Monesterio with El Real de la Jara (old Camino de la Plata). Although it is in the municipality of Monesterio, it is only 1 kilometer from the town of El Real de la Jara in the province of Seville

This castle is located right on the border between Andalusia and Extremadura. Although its origin and purpose are not well defined, different studies confirm that it was built between the 15th and 16th centuries. According to legend, in the 13th century during a battle against the Arabs, the master of the Order of Santiago, Pelay Pérez Correa, cried out to the Virgin shouting: "Holy Mary, stop your day" when he saw that night was approaching and the victory was not assured. It is said that the sun stopped on the horizon allowing the Christian troops to win. As thanks, the master ordered the construction of a temple dedicated to Santa María de Tentudía. At the end of the visit we can go to the bar where we can eat or drink while enjoying the scenery.

This square is located in the heart of the urban area of El Real de la Jara, next to the town church. It is a nice space to stop for a while to regain strength.
