Almendralejo, located in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, is a city with a rich historical, cultural, and agricultural heritage. Founded after the Reconquista, around the 13th century, by the Order of Santiago. Its name comes from the almond trees that once covered the original site. By the 16th century, it already had a well-established urban structure. In 1513, it received its charter of privileges, which spurred its development.

At the foot of the Sierra Grande de Hornachos we will arrive at the town of Hornachos. Its most important monument, the Iglesia de la Purísima Concepción, towers over the city.

On the east side of Almendralejo, near the train station, you reach the impressive Plaza de Toros and Parque de la Piedad and the monumental Ermita de Nuestra Señora de la Piedad. A great meeting point before the start of the adventure or a place to rest at the end.

The Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Purificación located in the city of Almendralejo began to be built on a previous one in 1494 and its construction lasted until 1515.

Almendralejo is a municipality and city within the Tierra de Barros region. The initial nucleus of the population was formalized around the parish church and the Casa de la Encomienda de la Orden de Santiago that was located opposite, where it grew to form the current city of Almendralejo.

One of the central enclaves of agricultural Extremadura that, by establishing itself on the Vía de la Plata, has prospered thanks to the connection through this artery with the main centers of Extremadura and Seville. Among its streets you can enjoy the typical products and gastronomy of the area.
