Very nice market square!

Döderhults Church is one of the oldest buildings in Oskarshamn. It stands out for miles in the midst of the flat fields, and is well worth a visit up close. The church has medieval origins but the current building was built in the 1770s.

The market square in the old town is a great place to linger. The bars and restaurants on the square and in the streets are also well attended in the evening.

Very nice first impression of the city

The Kalmar theatre opened in 1863, and was designed by architect Bror Carl Malmberg, who also designed Stora Teatern, the Grand Theatre, in Gothenburg. The interior of the Kalmar theatre is decorated according to the style of the time, in red, white, and gold. The theatre building has also been used as a pool hall, a hotel, a movie theatre, a circus, and a schweizeri, a type of café that served alcohol. The former town hall was built in the Dutch style between 1684 and 1690. Until the end of the 19th century, the town hall cellar existed on the ground floor and there were detention cells below.
