The Castillo de Sarmiento, also known as the Castillo de Fuentes de Valdepero, is an impressive 15th-century fortification in Fuentes de Valdepero, Palencia, Spain. It was built by the noble Sarmiento family and is one of the most imposing and well-preserved castles of its time, with thick walls of up to 11 metres (36 ft) and a height that was unparalleled in its time.

The castle is made up of a solid square tower, approximately 13 meters on a side, to which a trapezoidal-shaped enclosure is attached. This modest medieval bastion crowns one of the town's hills and remains a tangible reminder of the history and greatness of Palencia. A place where stones whisper stories of times past! 🏰🌄

The castle was built between 1442 and 1465 by Diego Pérez Sarmiento, third lord of the town and Count of Santa Marta. Archaeological excavations confirm this chronology and reveal the presence of family coats of arms in the castle.
