This is a single lock with a rise of 2.9 metres. The lockkeeper’s cottage at Norrkvarn Upper was built in 1819, while the cottage at Norrkvarn Lower dates from 1901. The place name indicates that there was once a water mill at Norrkvarn. It is known that one existed here as early as 1401 but mill operations came to an end in the 1960s.

Nice wooden path along the river. There are covered seating areas at the foot of the dam and a small fire pit in the parking lot above.

Beautiful ensemble of classic red wooden houses in the churchyard of the cathedral. Great photo opportunity!

Hotel with a heart for campers, who are also allowed to park their mobile homes here. Small Götakanal mini world to visit.

At the lock there is a nice excursion cafe and restaurant which invites you to linger with great play facilities for children.

Beautiful church of Lyrestad. Also worth seeing inside! The small twin towers on the apse on the east side are special.

Cycle path on old band route. Drives well even if the asphalt is not the best.

Loose gravel, like so many typical Swedish back roads. To drive well with the cross bike.
