This defense fortification was built on the remains of a previous fortress by the Order of Santiago, which placed the center of the Commandery of Castile there. It has suffered throughout history various processes of abandonment and inconsideration. In the 1960s a restoration took place that, with greater or lesser success, has allowed us to fit out this historic building as a public space. At the end of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century, it underwent another adaptation process that, also, with greater or lesser success, has led us to reflect on museographic intervention.

The Prop of the Mass, with its 1,796 meters, is one of the most outstanding vertices of the Sierra de Segura, Jaen. From its privileged location, it offers us breathtaking and wide views in all directions, with the blue of the waters of the narrow Las Anchuricas reservoir that deliciously breaks the forest color of the black pine surroundings. The territory where it is located is integrated into the Cazorla, Segura y las Villas Natural Park, which is the largest protected area in Spain. It is also a Biosphere Reserve and classified as a Special Protection Area for Birds.

Las Gorgollitas is a village belonging to the municipality of Santiago-Pontones, in the province of Jaén (Andalusia). Composed of several nuclei, the most notable is that of the Cortijo del Carrascal. The village is located on the eastern slope of the Loma del Calar, northwest of the Segura river and the Anchuricas reservoir. It is located 34.5 km from Santiago de la Espada by road. In the natural environment of the village, abundant in water, there is no shortage of springs and streams, surrounding the village with thick trees, where walnut trees, orchards and pines abound. From the village you can see the Calar del Cobo and the Puntal de la Misa, as well as the valley of the Segura river, forming a beautiful panoramic view. The village, as of January 1, 2017, had 17 inhabitants. However, at the beginning of the 20th century, the journalist and lawyer Luis Bello pointed out in his book Journey through the schools of Spain (1929) more than two hundred inhabitants in Las Gorgollitas.
