Last year in August (2024) it was brimming with energy and enthusiasm, but this year (2025) it's dry again. There's water, but it doesn't even fill half the pool. The water filters a few meters down, into Fuente Segura de Abajo.

It is the closest uphill cycling port to the route of the Segura River (I have done the downhill from Poyotello to Huelga Utrera, passing by the Cueva del Agua). Years ago it was not paved and that made it even more epic, it is 10 kilometres long and would surely be considered a first-class or special port. With asphalt, it continues to be beautiful and demanding, especially from km 6 to 9. If you do it uphill, save your strength for this section.

We owe the innkeepers a great deal of gratitude. We were caught in a hailstorm on March 30, 2022 and arrived at the kiosk completely frozen. The kiosk was closed. But the innkeepers let us in and we were allowed to warm ourselves up by the fire. We are very grateful to them for this and therefore highly recommend this restaurant.

Beautiful place on the GR7

The climb is very demanding but with incredible views below La Toba, a beautiful place and above the canyon, also spectacular.

A beautiful little refugio perched on top of a hill, exclusive to hikers and cyclists. Pump for water that was working in October 2023. Be aware that you might not be alone - we slept with 8(!) other hikers inside.

At 1710 meters, this refugio (shelter) stands at a lonely height in a beautiful spot in the Sierra. Inside the refugio is neatly maintained with bunk beds and outside you really imagine yourself in Spanish Lapland. A top place to stay overnight!

The campos is the main reason why I visited this nature reserve. Years ago I saw pictures of it on the internet and in real life it is just as beautiful as I had hoped. The endlessness of the plateau, which is constantly varied, never gets boring. Although the cycling was relatively tough with a constant climb to the north and also a headwind, it was a beautiful place to cycle with the gravel bike. Along the way you will encounter several refugios / shelters to spend the night.
