Morella Castle rises atop the "Mola" rock, dominating the landscape with its walls and towers that tell centuries of history. It was occupied by Iberians, Romans, Muslims, and Christians, and its walls commemorate battles of El Cid, the War of Spanish Succession, and the Carlist Wars. The tour takes in the main square, the Governor's Palace, ancient cisterns, and the keep, with spectacular views over a sea of mountains and the reddish roofs of the town. Access is from the Convent of San Francisco, and it's worth taking your time, as the steep ramps and stairs require an effort that is well rewarded by the panoramic views.

Mirambel is one of the best-preserved medieval towns in the Maestrazgo: its complete walls, the beautiful Portal de las Monjas (Monks' Gate) with its latticework, and palaces like Casa Aliaga give it a film-like feel (Tierra y Libertad was filmed here). Cycling through its cobbled streets and heading towards the Cantavieja ravine allows you to connect with marked GR 8 trails and quiet paths toward Cantavieja or La Cuba, between meadows and pollarded black poplars. It's a perfect plan for gravel or trekking, with short but challenging climbs and uneven ground in some sections.

Entrance fee is 3 euros (with a concession 2.5 euros).

Flaons are the city's specialty. The blueberry ones are especially delicious.

The Archpriestal Basilica of Santa Maria la Mayor, located in Morella, is a jewel of Mediterranean Gothic. Its construction began in the 13th century, during the transition from Romanesque to Gothic. The basilica also houses a museum with a permanent exhibition showcasing the historical and artistic legacy of the region.
