The Ellbach and Kirchseemoors have been a nature reserve since 1940 and a FFH area since 1998. The municipalities of Dietramszell and Sachsenkam, the town of Bad Tölz, and the market town of Holzkirchen all have shares in this protected area.

The foundation stone for the Franciscan monastery was laid in 1624. Two years later, the monastery buildings were completed, but the chapel in the churchyard, built in 1618, was to serve as a church. At the beginning of the 18th century, the expanded chapel became too small and in 1733-35 the church was built without a bell tower, but with a striking roof turret. The simple interior of the church with simple baroque wall pillars, without stucco and ceiling frescoes, but instead with noble inlaid altars with marble columns from the monastery workshop, corresponds to the Franciscan ideal of poverty. The monastery closed its doors in 2008.

Bad Tölz is truly a beautiful place, captivating with its unique combination of nature, culture, and Bavarian charm. The Isar River dominates the townscape and invites you to cycle or simply take a relaxing break on its banks.
